Do you ever have a dream and know that it meant something more? I have had extremely vivid dreams since I was a young girl. So vivid, I believe I could write movies from them (some of them horror movies!). Some dreams I remember every single detail, and the feeling sticks with me for days or even weeks. As I write this I am remembering a dream I had when I was a young girl. I still can remember the feeling in that particular dream! Buffalo were grazing right outside of my window where I slept! That doesn’t happen in Ham Lake, Minnesota. However, when I woke up I really did have to look outside to see if they were there in the hills. There are dreams that I have had that I believe to have come from God. During this process of confirming my calling, I especially had one night of affirmation and challenge…
Journal Entry August 3, 2009:
I had three separate, specific dreams last night.
1) I became a pastor at Maranatha Church in Forest Lake, Minnesota and it was great! I don’t remember much about this dream, except that it was a wonderful experience. (This was my church home at the time. However, there were no pastor positions available and I did not have credentials or qualifications yet.)
2) I was a youth pastor, but I had troubles at home with my own children. My boys were smoking and huge troublemakers as teens. A youth asked me to help them with something, but I was too busy with my own family to help them! This dream really bothered me. So much so I would consider it a nightmare. (My boys at the time were 9 and 3.)
3) I was telling my testimony to Pastor Travis (he was the associate pastor at our church and is now in the mission field). It was a long, drawn out process, like I was interviewing for something. I remember it taking all day long.
So not an example of a lot of detail, but those three dreams separate in one night. I believe God talks to many of us through our dreams and I pray for many more. I suggest that if you have vivid dreams, and you feel like God is speaking to you through your dreams, start to journal them. I have seen dreams come to reality that I know were from God. It is hard to act on them, unless God specifically asks you to do something, because they never seem to become reality like our human minds would think. I also believe God confirms things in dreams.
Have you ever felt like you had a nightmare- but it was significant and from God? I also know that God may warn us of things in our dreams. Like my dream above about my boys. I believe that was a warning from God that my first ministry is to my family. When we receive warnings from God, it is a call to prayer so that does not come true. I do my best at praying for my marriage and my boys every day.
“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.” Joel 2:28 NIV
