8. Mentors

Something that every one of us needs is a mentor. I personally have a hard time choosing a mentor. I want their life to be a reflection of who I would want to become. So I am picky. I have been blessed with many mentors in my life. In the business world, I had mentors that knew me, loved me, and pushed me to be my very best. Because of my calling into ministry, I was developing some strong mentors in the church world. Some that are still my mentors to this day – many years later!

Pastor Bill: August 4, 2009

I went and talked with Pastor Bill today. I am probably driving him crazy by now. He said a few things that stuck with me. He said that God will open the doors as He directs, I need to keep doing what I have always done and just listen to Him. God will open door for me and then it us up to me to be obedient and walk through them. I will know when and how to move forward. That is such a strange concept to me coming from the business world. If I wanted something to happen, I would make it happen! It is tough to trust God for things to happen. The other thing Pastor Bill said that stuck out to me was it could be years before things started to play out. Years? I am not a young teeny bopper just graduating from high school here. I am a grown woman, a mature business owner. However, He is preparing me little by little. He is humbling me and building me up at the same time. Teaching me to rely on Him.

Pastor Orleen: August 17, 2009

I had lunch with Orleen today. We talked about everything from the death of my father-in-law and how to heal from that, to her calling into ministry, to my calling into ministry. She said one thing that will confirm my calling is that people will all of a sudden start asking me more “life” questions. That way I will know I am moving in the right direction. I had 3 people approach me with life questions after this conversation over the next week. One person that I work with approached me with some spiritual questions. Another came to me to start a spiritual mentorship. Even later that same day a family member had a list of questions waiting for me. It was as if they were waiting for this conversation to happen before coming to me.

On my next post, I will share about my debut speaking to the Youth on a Wednesday Night Youth Service.
